Welcome to the Edgewood Elementary School Guidance Web Page

My name is Dina Veltre Miller. I am the school counselor for Edgewood Elementary. Please feel free to contact me at 412-731-2238 ext. 2130 or by email at veltdi@whsd.net.

Message from Edgewood Elementary: We in the Edgewood Elementary community will be doing our part to help Haitian earthquake victims. In addition to helping the devastated victims, this is also an opportunity to teach global responsibility to our students. We are going to be collecting spare change from Friday, January 22 until Friday, January 29. We will donate the money collected to the American Red Cross. Each student's homeroom teacher will have a container to collect contributions.

In addition, the staff and students will also be wearing "Hats for Haiti" on Friday, January 29. In order to wear a hat on that day, students can donate a dollar, or a toiletry item such as: baby wipes, non-liquid soap, wash cloths, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, and brushes.

Parents: please send only these requested items to school with your child. Each classroom will be preparing a bucket of items to send to Haiti through Brother's Brother Foundation. Hats must be appropriate for school and worn in their intended style. If you have any questions please talk to your child's homeroom teacher. Thank you for all you do to support programs in our school.

THANK YOU EDGEWOOD PRIMARY!

Edgewood Primary donated 16 large boxes of food and pantry items (which equaled 322 pounds!!!) to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Please read this letter of thanks from them.

Edgewood Primary staff, students and families have made a great difference in the lives of people in our community. Edgewood Primary is truly a wonderful and generous community!

Thanks again!

SPRING COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT!

Edgewood Primary Students are participating in a community service project benefiting the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, which directly services the food banks in our community. We are collecting non perishable food and pantry items from March 30, 2009 through April 10, 2009. A packet of information was sent home with the students on Monday March 30, 2009. Please send items into school with your child if you are interested. The items are being collected in the main office. Every little bit helps! Thank you in advance for your participation.

Together we can teach our children the importance of helping each other, and that they do make a difference!

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY

Please continue to review the importance of school bus safety throughout the school year.

School bus safety is an important subject to discuss with your children before starting school. The goal of Edgewood Primary and the bus company is to keep your child safe while riding to and from school on the bus. You can help by reviewing the TEN RULES OF SCHOOL BUS SAFETY with your child.

Important attendance information. Please review this information frequently throughout the school year.

Grief Information

Grief happens in many areas of life. I am often asked to meet with a child after a loss. At this young age, many children are not ready to express themselves about his or her grief. Children cope with loss differently than adults. I developed a page of grief related resources and information that you might find helpful. Please contact me if you feel your child needs support with a loss.

Thank you to all who participated in last year's food drive held prior to the holiday break. We collected seven large boxes, plus additional bags, of non perishable food items. These items were donated to the Rankin Christian Center Food Pantry. They were very grateful for our donation during such a busy time.

Edgewood Primary's 2007 CAREER DAY was held on FRIDAY APRIL 27TH 2007.

Thanks to all who participated! Once again it was a great success.
